How to cold email for a job

Updated October 2026 · Free to copy and edit

Cold emailing for a job works best when you write to the person who would actually be your manager, not the HR inbox. They're the one with the problem you can solve.

Keep it short, show that you know what the team does, give one or two pieces of proof, and ask for a conversation rather than a job.
